The V-Chip [
Top]
is an electronic chip which works in conjunction with your television, VCR, or cable box. If you choose to utilize the V-Chip feature, you select a rating level you feel appropriate for your children. V-Chip reads the transmitted ratings code for all programming and will automatically deny access to programming which exceeds your preset ratings limitations.
TVGuardian [

and the V-Chip are two very different parental control devices. They are complimentary products, not competing products. The V-Chip is merely an automated on/off switch, while TVGuardian is an automatic editing device. In order for the V-Chip to work, a ratings system must be broadcast with the television signal or video. If a video or program's rating exceeds the allowed rating set by the parents, the V-Chip blocks the entire program.
TVGuardian cleans up the language in the background, while you watch. There are many movies and TV programs that have foul language and nothing else offensive. TVGuardian solves this problem and expands the viewing options for your family.
TVG Technology is patented technology that detects foul words and mutes them. It works by monitoring the hidden closed-caption text and comparing each word against a dictionary of more than 150 offensive words and phrases. When a foul word or phrase is detected, TVG automatically mutes the offensive language.
A profanity-free version of the phrase is then displayed during the mute. For example, "Get the F- out of here!" would be muted and "Get out of here!" would be displayed during the mute, or, in the Strict setting, “Move your A#$!” would be muted and “Move your tail!” would be displayed during the mute. Then the text would be erased, the sound would be turned back on, and you would continue watching as usual.
You won’t miss a thing – except the offensive language, of course.
TVGuardian has multiple filter settings - OFF, Tolerant, Moderate and Strict. There's even a special setting that, when turned ON, will mute offensive religious references.
TVGuardian catches 100% of the offensive language in many movies and TV shows and has an average accuracy rate of better than 95% on qualified programs. It also works with TV Shows, movie channels, DVDs, VHS and Pay-Per-View, depending on the product type.
